2009 Mohochi Scholars
In February of 2009, the following students were selected as the first recipients of the Kusoma - LMEF scholarships. We congratulate them and wish them well!
Richard
Richard does not know where his parents are. He only knows that he has a little brother who is about the age to be in class three. Richard stays with a Maranatha church elder who is a farmer. The major challenges are paying the school fees. He has no funds for school books or the scientific calculator that he needs for his studies. Richard did very well in class eight whereby he achieved a score of 377 points out of the possible 500 points on the K.C.P.E. Examinations. Richard is now in Form One at the Tarang'anya High School, and he wanted us to mention that he is just grateful for the generosity of the Kusoma - LMEF.
In Richard's words:
My name is Zungu Richard Mugonga. I come from poverty stricken background. I managed to do my KCPE last year at Kiburanga Primary School. Despite the problems of school fees and poverty line, Kusoma - LMEF assisted me to go to secondary school. I thank God for Kusoma - LMEF. Had it not been Kusoma - LMEF, maybe I would have been a different person in the society.
I am now at Tarang'anya secondary school. As exams are concerned, I managed to get 941 marks out of 1100 and I happened to be in position two. The main challenge that I am facing is the lacking of essential materials such as dictionary, Kamusi and the calculator. I also need some textbooks. Had I had them I believe I would have done better than this.
I thank God for you and I have faith that you are such kind people who want to save the world from poverty pocket. May God bless you abundantly and answer to everything that you ask him.
I promise to work extra harder to keep it up and improve from that. Thank you so much. I'm very thankful and grateful. I just don't know how to express my feelings toward you. Thank you so much.
Jane
Jane is the second born of eight children. She also has twelve half brothers and sisters that her father cares for. She lives with her parents, who work as peasant farmers doing small scale farming in a very small piece of land. The elder sister could not make it to Form One for lack of fees thus she was forced to repeat class eight. There are two boys in class six, one of which is handicapped, one boy in class four and another in nursery school. Jane's parents are unable to afford even basic medical care, so illness is common among the family members. There are no resources available to help her even acquire the appropriate basic books for school, not even a dictionary.
Jane is a promising young scholar. She was able to achieve an above average score of 289 points out of the possible 500 points in the K.C.P.E. Examinations. Thanks to the Kusoma - LMEF, she is able to attend the St.Teresa Kehancha Girls High School.
In Jane's words:
My name is Jane Kalpchi Mohprai. I come from Alallkonge village in Kuria District. I did my KCPE last year. I got 287 marks and was position one in our school. I was able to go to secondary school through Kusoma - LMEF supports and I say thanks. My performance is 907 out of 1200 marks and I promise I will do better than this. I was position 12 out of 110 students and my dream is to become a doctor.
I am praying to God to help me and to keep you strong to assist me to complete my education.
Anastansia
Anastansia is the first born of four children. Her father has died. One sibling is in class six, another in nursery school and another not yet in school. She lives with her mother who is a peasant farmer. They have no funds available to pay for her school tuition. Anastansia was able to achieve 322 out of 500 possible points in the K.C.P.E. Examinations. She is currently in Form One of St.Teresa Kehancha Girls High School She wanted us to mention that she is very grateful for the Kusoma - LMEF scholarship.
In Annastanzia's words:
My name is Annastanzia Ghat. I am a girl of 15 years. I did my KCPE exam last year and I got 322 marks which were a bit better. I am now in a secondary school with the help of Kusoma - LMEF, am at St. Teresa Girls Secondary School. My results of end term exam was good enough which was a good trial, I scored 1007 marks out of 1200 and I was positon one.
My last comment is that I would like to thank the people who started this project, this is because I was unable to go ahead with my education but now am able because of this project.
Johaness
Chacha (or Johannes) is one of four children. He lives with his mother, who is a peasant farmer. His sister is already married out. There are serious financial constraints e.g. when a school uniform is lost or stolen it becomes very difficult to make a replacement. They also lack funds to furnish him with standard school books. They live in a grass thatched house which leaks in the rainy season, making life very difficult at times. Johannes was able to achieve 297 points in the K.C.P.E. Examinations out of the possible 500 points. This is above average. This is his first term in form one of the Tarang'anya High School. Johannes has the zeal to learn more, and expresses his sincere gratitude towards the Kusoma - LMEF.
In Johannes' words:
I am taking this great opportunity to thank Kusoma - LMEF for what they have made to me. My name is Johannes ChaCha Mwitusia, I am in form one at Tarang'anya High School. I did my final exam in the previous year, and I managed to obtain 297 marks out of 500. After completing my final exam in primary school I was incapable of to go on with my study. But through our Holy Father, you have tried your best to make my tears dry, which no one could make them dry in the society. For more and for most I managed to score 590 marks out of 1100 marks at Tarang'anya High School, but my aim was to score higher than this. The reason of being scoring this kind of marks it is because I was sick and I was admitted at hospital for more than two days.
But because this has past I have planted a seed of hope in my heart and I promise that I will do better than this next aduration.
I vividly recall to inform you that you have done something that I will leave to recall in my life for ever and ever. For your kindness I am requesting you to continue with the same spirit. I also asking you to proceed for us some material to build a house because during rain season are things are being rained on. God bless you.
Diana
Diana is the sixth Mohochi Scholar for the academic year 2009.
In spite of her very needy and trying situation at home, Diana successfully passed the K.C.P.E. Examinations. She is currently attending the Mary Gorreti Girls High School, and is extremely grateful to the Kusoma - LMEF for affording her this opportunity.
In Diana's words:
My name is Diana Nyamohango. I came from Nyamaharaga. I did my KCPE last year at St. Anne's Girls Isibania and was able to get 814 marks. By the help of Kusoma - LMEF I was able to go to St. Maria Goreti Rongai high school. I was the fourth person in the end term exam and had 950 marks. I promise to do better than this next time.
